IN PROGRESS! Self portrait in acrylic paint on hardboard. This has been 3 weeks of building layers. I'm really feeling this idea of showing my inner self. The universe is apart of my matter and I am emerging from it. I'm holding a peacock fan over my shoulder, Egyptian scales in the background of Ma'at feather of truth weighing a heart. I'm so excited to finish this and continue a series of introspective and cultural works. I still remember myself before painting. When it was romantic and on a pedestal. Now it's integral to my daily existence and I need it to feel whole. On Saturday, February 1, 2020 I taught a painting class in honor of Black History Month, and especially dedicated to Black Art History. I show respect to my legacy by carrying it on and keeping it fresh. ✨✨✨💛 Our session was inspired by the work of Lois Mailou Jones. Color, shape, line, form, movement and rhythm were the main objectives. We used a limited palette to push boundaries and infuse a color theory educational piece. ✨✨✨💛 The art room was packed with 8 participating guests who got to enjoy a complementary drink with their experience. ⚖️✨✨✨💛 Join me for my next painting party at the Beverly Arts Center on February 14th.
