Your life can change in a matter of seconds.

Around 9pm on Saturday, December 22, 2012 I experienced a life threatening car crash.

I was traveling with three other passengers on I-55 when we noticed an unidentified object in the road. I began to merge in the left lane, but as we approached it I realized there were two obstructions spread across both lanes and they were big. I swerved to the right avoiding a head on collision; the car spun out of control, slammed into the left shoulder, and rolled over twice landing upside down on the hood and windshield. The seatbelts saved our lives. Everyone simeltaneously unfastened their seatbelts for escape, but I was the only one stuck in my seat.

I thought I was going to burn alive from the fluid leaking out the car, or get hit by the oncoming traffic my car was facing. I panicked suspended upside down, yelling for my sister and friends to get me out. I heard my sister call my name to pull me out so I inched my way closer to the passenger window extending my hands out. In a matter of seconds, I was pulled out the car onto glass covered pavement on my back and ran to the side of the road.

Every person I spoke to that night claimed we had angels and were blessed. The staff at St. Joseph’s showed great awe for us surviving the fatal crash with no life threatening injuries. Nurse Dawn said she’ll never forget us because most car crash patients from I-55 don’t make it……she actually claimed me as an angel.

Although I’m still processing the incident, there were many lessons to be learned from the crash since the only loss suffered was my iPod touch. Check out the link below to read the article posted about my car crash, and remember to have a safe holiday.
